Today’s Encouragement is, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. Let us run the race God has set before us with endurance. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.” Hebrews 12:1-2a NLT
Eyes On Jesus –
“Eyes on me!” This is the leader’s command. Whether it is a battlefield commander, quarterback, tour guide, or the boss at work, we are wise to keep our focus on the leader, the one who knows the way.
In this race, some plod, some fly, but this race is unavoidable, a truth of this earthly life. Burdens weigh us down, obstacles block our way, and distractions pull us off course; many things work against us and easily trip us up.
We do not have the option of benchwarming; we are in this race. This one factor, our focus, determines how we run, how effective our effort is, and how we handle the challenges during this race.
By faith, we choose to look to Jesus. We strip off the weight of sin, addictions, doubts, fears, guilt, and every burden that would weigh us down. We run with endurance, courage, and the confident hope of finishing strong. Keeping our focus on Jesus as our leader, our captain, our hope, and our God is the one essential factor. He has gone before us, and He knows every step of the way.
Thank You, Father, for helping us to keep our eyes on Jesus. We recognize that He is “the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.” He is the Way. (John 14:6)
