What He Requires

Today’s Encouragement is, “No, O people, the LORD has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8 NLT

What He Requires –

This clear summary counters our assumptions of the great sacrifices (see vv 6-7) that we presume God requires. We think we have to do certain things, give up certain things, and behave like a “good Christian” to be acceptable to God. Sadly, we often act this way to gain acceptance from others.

The Bible is clear: we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior (Ephesians 2:8-9). Our faith is not a matter of our behavior; it is a matter of our heart, the spirit within us.

And God’s requirements for living in accordance with His will are also clear: do right, love mercy, and walk humbly before Him. Jesus explained that all of the law and the prophets were contained in His commands to love God and love others. (Matthew 22:37-40)

We often get busy doing things we believe will be good for us, for our families, our church, even our nation. We see ourselves sacrificing for God through our busyness. But God’s perspective is the true measure, not ours or anyone else’s.

We are wise to remember the clarity and simplicity of His Truth. Love God, love others, do right, love mercy, walk humbly with Him.

Father God, thank You for always offering us the simple and clear Truth through Your Word. Help us to focus on these essentials, and stop striving to earn Your approval.

Act Justly, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly
