If They Kept Quiet

Today’s Encouragement is, “He replied, ‘If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers!’” Luke 19:40 NLT

If They Kept Quiet –

As Jesus entered Jerusalem, the people shouted, sang, and praised Him. They could not contain their praise. He explained that if the people were silent, all of creation, even the stones, would cry out His praises. Praise and worship are the highest expression of our wonder, awe, adoration, and love for Him.

But why? Why do we sing, praise, and worship our God? Why is this necessary? Does God have some need that we must meet? Is our praise of Him to satisfy His ego?

God has no needs. He is complete in Himself. But we desperately need Him. He deeply loves us. And our response to His Love reveals how deeply we understand, acknowledge, and accept it.

Like the love story on TV, one person finally says, “I love you,” then anxiously awaits the same in reply. God has already demonstrated, perfectly, His immeasurable Love for us. Now the response is up to us. Unlike the human need for reciprocation, He doesn’t anxiously wait for our response. But He does wait for us! Like the father of the prodigal son waited patiently. (Luke 15:20)

So we respond to His perfect Love by loving Him through praise, adoration, and worship.

Please recognize that this expression of love and praise is for us, not for Him! He doesn’t need our love to make Him happy, complete, or satisfied. But we have a need, an unrecognized spiritual hunger, to worship and praise Him!

Help us to appropriately praise, worship, and honor You, our Father. Let all creation praise You (Psalm 148).
