Today’s Encouragement is, “Give us today the food we need.” Matthew 6:11 NLT
Give Us Today –
Jesus taught us to pray. These words are from the familiar “Lord’s Prayer.” And His words are life (John 6:68).
Give us – God is the source of every good thing. He provides and cares for us with Love and kindness; His gift to us, not based upon our merit. As a good shepherd, He sees that our needs are met.
Today – God promises to provide our daily needs.. He fed His people daily manna for forty years (Exodus 6:35)! They only had to gather, accept and receive the gift He gave. And this prayer is for our daily need.
The food we need – all living things need nourishment, food and water. God is the source. He gives. Jesus taught us that we need to remain attached to Him, remain in Him, in order to receive this nourishment and to live, flourish and have productive lives. “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5
Finally, it isn’t only our food and water that we need daily, which He provides, but His Truth, His Word. “People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4b
Father God, thank You for all You have given and continue to give us. First for Jesus, our Savior and Lord of all, and for the gifts of eternal life, forgiveness, Your Love, and even for our daily nourishment. Help us to daily feed on Your Word.
