All These Details

Today’s Encouragement is, “But the Lord said to her, ‘My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.’” Luke 10:41-42 NLT

All These Details –

Mary and Martha’s experience clearly shows that Martha judged and condemned Mary, and she wanted Jesus to join her in accusing her sister. Martha was focused on “all these details” that Mary should and ought to do. “I’m doing what I should and ought to do, and so should Mary!”

These are words of judgment and accusation; they are “Martha words.” “I know I should pray more, I really ought to read the Bible more, I need to do more to serve Him, I wish I were better at scripture memory.”

Is it possible that… Our enemy wants us to feel inadequate, incomplete, unworthy, and that we are not doing enough? He accuses us day and night (Revelation 12:10).

A desire for more of God in our lives is a very good thing. But if it leads to condemnation rather than a resolution to change, it is destructive.

In truth, we can never do enough to be good enough to be enough for God. We can choose to stop striving like Martha with all her “shoulds and ought tos,” and instead, rest in the presence of Jesus. He has already done everything that should and ought to be done. God needs nothing from us. Just rest at His feet.

Thank You, Father, that Christ has done it all. Help us to be at peace, to rest in His finished work. Help us to serve You and Your people with Love and Joy, free from obligation, guilt, or self-justification.
