Today’s Encouragement is, “And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.” Romans 8:2 NLT
Belong to Him –
We are chosen, selected, adopted, embraced, deeply loved people of God. We belong to Him. Jesus purchased us from this world, ourselves, and from the power of sin, with His blood.
We are Not our own; we have been bought by Him (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
Part of us recoils at such a thought, belonging to anyone, anything? No! We want to be self-made, self-directed, and self-sufficient (see any pattern here?) We want independence, freedom of choice, our own self-will.
This is our human nature, it is universal, innate, and timeless. And it is our downfall.
In truth, we were enslaved to ourselves, to our sinful nature, and not free in any true sense. “Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have given you. Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living.”Romans 6:17-18
The truth is, we are either slaves to sin, controlled, even owned, by the power of sin, or we belong to Jesus, owned by Him, chosen and purchased by Him to be His own. Because we are His own, He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7), provides everything that we need (Psalm 23:1), and He has good plans for us (Jeremiah 29:11).
Father God, we belong to You. Our mind, health, wealth, time, and talent are all Yours to use as You choose! This day, my entire life is not mine, but Yours.
