Today’s Encouragement is, “And may the Lord make your love for one another and for all people grow and overflow, just as our love for you overflows.” 1 Thessalonians 3:12 NLT
Love Overflows –
Our human love, seen in parents for children, the newlyweds, and grandparents for their grandchildren, is beyond our understanding, in a sense, irrational, motivating us to go to great lengths to express our love for one another.
This is our human love; felt and expressed to an extent by everyone, and as astounding and inexplicable as our love is, there is a much Greater Love.
God is Love (1 John 4:16). And Love is patient, kind, not self-seeking (1 Corinthians 13:4).
Jesus revealed this Love. First, He taught us to love God with all your heart, mind, and soul, and love others in the same way that you love yourself. (Matthew 22:37-39) Then He demonstrated God’s perfect Love for us by laying down His life so we could have eternal life (1 John 3:16).
Loving others is overflow. God’s Love first flows into us, filling us until we overflow, and His Love then spills out, overflowing into those around us. “We love each other because He loved us first.” 1 John 4:19
There is a never-ceasing flow of divine Love from Him to us, through us, to others.
We can reject His Love and the flow is cut off, and the lives of those we encounter, including our own, shrivel and die. Or – we can choose to embrace His Love, accept, and receive it, and the overflow continues.
Thank You, Father, for Your unceasing, ever-flowing Love for us. Help us to accept and embrace Your immeasurable Love and be filled and overflow to those around us.
