The Living Bread

Today’s Encouragement is, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh.” John 6:51 NLT

The Living Bread –
Like the hearers in Jesus’ day, we too struggle with these words. “For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.” (v 55-56) “At this point many of his disciples turned away and deserted him.” (v66) His message, the truth, was just as hard to accept in His day as it still is in ours.
We learn later that Jesus’ eating and drinking are symbolized by communion, or the Lord’s Supper. And it is a widely practiced sacrament in almost all Christian churches. But the sacrament is symbolic.
Only with our hearts, souls, and minds can we truly “eat His flesh and drink His blood.” We accept Him as Savior, we read His word, we honor Him as Lord, and this is partaking of Him also. It’s still a graphic and unimaginable imagery to us, and yet, these are His words!
My friends, Jesus said that when we partake of Jesus, we have His Life, the Life within us. His Life, living today, in us. You and I have Jesus living in us!
Father God, we thank You for Jesus. For everything He did and taught us. Help us to accept and believe that we can eat His living bread and drink His living water and have Eternal Life.
