Today’s Encouragement is, “I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken.” Psalm 62:1-2 NLT
Quietly –
We don’t, do we? “Wait quietly.” We want it all now. We expect God to answer our prayers immediately, as if tapping our foot, arms crossed, and scowling would make Him bow to our wishes. He isn’t intimidated!
Our Father is patient with us; He waits for us, often, always. He doesn’t push us or use tactics to motivate us to do His will. He is loving, guiding, and gentle. And in reciprocal fashion, we are wise to wait quietly before Him. Resting in His Presence, much like Mary did, as her sister Martha was busy entertaining and hosting. Jesus commended her for her quiet waiting and listening.
When we wait for Him quietly, we can hear Him speak clearly. He will not yell above the noise of our busy lives; He doesn’t demand our attention. And we cannot demand His. We can simply ask and wait for Him. He will always come, always respond, always speak to His dearly loved people, and He is our rock, our salvation and fortress. We will never be shaken. When we wait quietly before Him, listening.
(Meditative worship music is often helpful in quietly waiting, like this song.)
Father God, we know that waiting patiently and quietly for You is wise. We struggle with our busyness, impatiently waiting, not listening, not quiet. But You are always still waiting for us! Patient and Loving. Thank You, Father. Help us to quiet our souls and listen!
