Today’s Encouragement is, “Jesus replied, ‘My mother and my brothers are all those who hear God’s word and obey it.’” Luke 8:21 NLT
Hear God’s Word –
Everyone who hears and obeys God’s word is a mother and brother of Jesus. Not my words or my idea; His.
We do nothing perfectly, so don’t allow that detail to negate Jesus’ truth in your life. We are His family.
Obviously, we hear with our human ears and senses when the word of God is spoken and also hear, in another sense, as we read His word. These two are clear, but we can also hear God speak, in a less literal sense, but just as valid, when God’s Spirit speaks to our spirits.
Before you tune me out and choose not to “hear” this, consider: The Bible is filled with examples of God speaking directly to people, in both the Old and New Testaments, before any words were written, before Jesus walked this earth, and after. Peter, one of His disciples, heard God’s voice and saw a life-changing vision. Paul, not one of the twelve disciples, also heard Jesus’ voice in a life-changing vision.
God spoke to people.
God still speaks to people.
Hear God’s voice.
Perceive His message.
Trust Him.
He will always affirm Jesus. He will always agree with His written word. He will always speak in His character as a loving and wise Father.
We quickly dismiss the person who “claims to hear from God.” Sadly, many who say so are truly disturbed. But please don’t conclude that God no longer speaks to His family, His own, and to anyone who has ears to hear.
Thank You, Father, that You have spoken to us in so many ways; help us to truly hear You, Your Word, and Your heart.
