Why

Today’s Encouragement is, “Wake up, O Lord! Why do you sleep? Get up! Do not reject us forever. Why do you look the other way? Why do you ignore our suffering and oppression? We collapse in the dust, lying face down in the dirt. Rise up! Help us! Ransom us because of your unfailing love.” Psalm 44:23-26 NLT

Why? –

We all want to know why. We begin to ask this simple question as soon as we can speak, and we never stop asking.

God’s silence, His apparent absence, sleeping, not hearing us, these are not unique experiences of our day. He is God, and He chooses when and how and why He acts, or doesn’t act. “Why” is His realm, His decision, and often His mystery.

A few verses describe this concept: “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” Isaiah 55:8 NLT

“Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity.” 1 Corinthians 13:1a NLT

When we can lay aside our desperate quest for understanding, when we can surrender to God’s right to know what we do not, when we can rest in trust that He knows best, that He will do all He has promised us, and that Jesus is enough for us. Then we are living in Faith. Trusting Him who knows all, and is Good and Kind and Wise.

God is Love. (1 John 4:8)

Help us, Father, to surrender our need to know, to be in control and have all the answers. Help us to rest in You, trusting You for everything; as sheep trust the shepherd.
