Our Father

Today’s Encouragement is, “Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.” Matthew 6:9 NLT

Our Father –

Jesus taught us that we can address Almighty God as Father. We can speak with and hear from the creator of the universe. He is omnipotent (all-powerful), omniscient (all-knowing), omnipresent (all-present), and omnibeneficent (all-good), and still He is the One who loves us more than any other person.

And please notice the lack of flowery language. Jesus didn’t instruct us to flatter God, but to approach Him, as great as He is, as our personal, loving Father.

Also, He used the collective term “Our,” not “my Father” or “The Great Father.” Do you see the intimacy and familiarity of the plural form, “Our”? It’s as if we are acknowledging that we are all coming to Him in prayer, as one. We come individually and collectively before Him with “our” prayers. We are not alone; we who believe are His family, His church, and His body.

Thank You, Father for allowing us to pray, for giving us Your attention, and Your Love every time we pray. Help us to do the same, to give You our full attention, love, and gratitude. You are so very Great and so very Good, Lord.
