I Am Confident –
David wrote the psalms from the full gamut of his human emotion, joy and anguish, faith and fear, confidence and questioning.
In virtually every instance of his questioning, fear, and anguish, he ultimately returned to full trust in God. He expressed his true human emotions, but then allowed faith to conquer all the negative concerns.
This verse is an example of that ‘return.’ He expressed his fear of the enemies who surrounded him, evil people who attacked and accused him. David did not have an easy life.
But he continues in faith. He acknowledged the dangers confronting him but boldly proclaimed his confidence as he waited patiently for the Lord. God knows exactly when to act and what to do, and as we patiently trust Him, He will always come through for us, His dearly loved people.
Father, we long for the unwavering confidence that David expressed. We acknowledge the challenges, even threats, we face, but with Your strength, we can stand firm, confident that we too will see Your goodness in this life. Help us to be brave and courageous and to wait in patient confidence for You.
