Today’s Encouragement is, “Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly—not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example.” 1 Peter 5:2-3 NLT
Care For The Flock —
Let’s focus for a moment on the idea of “the flock God has entrusted to you.” Who is this? Is it the team you supervise at work? The class you teach? Your family? The answer is yes. Every group of people you’re part of is a flock God has entrusted to you.
Why? Because you are His. And because you belong to Him, everywhere you go, you represent Him. “So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, ‘Come back to God!’” (2 Corinthians 5:20 NLT). At work, in the grocery store, pumping gas—we carry His name, and His Spirit lives in us.
We can ignore this truth, as most of us do, or we can choose to be aware that we represent Him to the world.
Each of us has a flock, a group of people whom we influence. They may be many or few, scattered or gathered, lovable or unlovable, but they are ours, entrusted to our care.
How will we lead them? Not by lording over them, but by example—because we are eager to serve God, leading others to know Christ, to follow Him, and to receive the Love of God.
Father, thank You for the flock You’ve entrusted to me. Give me a willing heart to serve them well, and let my life point them toward You.
