Today’s Encouragement is, “I will praise the LORD at all times. I will constantly speak his praises.” Psalm 34:1 NLT
Constantly Speak –
What are we constantly speaking about? For most of us, it is our complaints: our health, politics, the economy, and the unfairness in this life. It may be true, it might be reality, factual, and supported by our family and friends.
But consider – what is the fruit? What is the final result of what we constantly talk about? The mouth speaks from our mind; the thoughts we entertain eventually take over what we speak, revealing our true beliefs. As we “constantly” think and then speak about our problems and complaints, these things grow in power, consuming more of our thoughts and words.
When we focus on God, His kindness and goodness, His power and promises, then He becomes a clearer and greater influence in our lives. And we live in peaceful recognition of Him, focused on Him and not obsessing over ourselves.
Contrary to popular belief, we can choose what our minds think about, and thus, what we constantly speak about, as David indicates in this sentence. He chose to “praise the Lord at all times.” This occurs in our minds, and from that praise-filled mind comes the overflow of constantly speaking His praises.
Father, help us to constantly speak Your praises, both in our minds and with our mouths. Help us to focus on the blessings You have given, the promises You have made, and the hope You have set before us, because You are good and You are Lord of all.
