Remain Faithful

Today’s Encouragement is, “Jesus said to the people who believed in him, ‘You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’” John 8:31-32 NLT

Remain Faithful –

We quickly respond, “But nobody’s perfect!” We want to be truly disciples of Jesus, but it seems beyond our abilities; we are not very faithful to much of anything!

Let’s examine a few key words: disciple, faithful, and teachings.

A disciple is a follower, a student, one who learns from and is taught by another.

Being Faithful implies direction and focus, not perfection. We use it in regard to marriage: a faithful husband and father is focused on loving, pleasing, caring for, and providing for his wife and family. He places them in great importance in his life and priorities. He thinks about them frequently. He is faithful to them.

Teachings are the concepts, principles, parables, and messages of Christ. What does Jesus say about this subject? He taught us on many topics, including love, worship, forgiveness, giving, faith, peace, and eternity, to name just a few!
All these teachings comprise the majority of the New Testament.

Now, my friend, review the verse: we, who are believers in Jesus, are truly His disciples as we choose to remain consistently faithful to His teachings. And as we do so, we come to know and understand and live in the Truth, and we are set free!

And even though we are not perfectly faithful, He is! “If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is.” 2 Timothy 2:13 NLT

Father, we long to remain faithful to You. We need Your help to accomplish this. Thank You for drawing us to Jesus, and for Your faithfulness to us.
