Today’s Encouragement is, ”Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.” John 16:7 ESV
To Your Advantage –
We often think, wouldn’t it have been wonderful to have been with Jesus and His disciples? Hearing His voice, walking with Him, being in His presence, and even praying with Him!
His disciples did! Even Judas! But they were still somewhat limited in their faith. Remember, even after three years with Him, Peter denied Him, Thomas doubted Him, and they all ran away when He was arrested! Then, after His resurrection, they all returned to fishing! (John 21:3)
The Holy Spirit, whom Jesus called the Helper, was the difference. Before Jesus sent the Spirit (see Acts 2:1-4), the disciples were still somewhat confused and wandering, even after years with Jesus night and day!
After the Helper, the Holy Spirit arrived, they were changed! Peter preached effectively, and 3000 souls were saved! (Acts 2:41)
Jesus said it, the Bible demonstrates it: it is to our advantage that Jesus has gone away, because He has sent us His Helper, the Holy Spirit!
Father, we thank You for revealing the Truth to us, even when it is challenging to understand. Give us faith to recognize the amazing blessing You have given us; Your Holy Spirit living within us!
