Today’s Engagement is, “Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” Luke 18:8b ESV
Will He Find Faith –
We’re familiar with this poignant question from Jesus, but please note the context. It follows the parable of the persistent widow, which was introduced with: “One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.” Luke 18:1 NLT
How is persistent prayer, and not giving up, connected to Jesus finding faith when He returns?
It becomes clear in relation to the parable. Those who persist in prayer, even when those prayers are not yet answered, are those who have faith! The faithful believers will pray and keep on praying in faith.
“So don’t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?” Luke 18:7b NLT
Jesus is encouraging us to “cry out to God day and night” in prayer. He is also acknowledging that answers to our prayers do not always come immediately, when we want! The answers also may not come in the form we want! Because God is Sovereign, and because He always acts with Love for His people, He knows the best way, the absolutely perfect way to respond to our prayer! Always!
Father, help us continue to trust, to ask, to cry out, and to believe. So that when Jesus returns, He will find us faithful!
