Today’s Encouragement is, “This is real love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.” 1 John 4:10 NLT
Real Love –
When we are honest with ourselves, we must admit that we aren’t very good at loving God. In truth, we are totally inadequate! Jesus said that this is the greatest commandment: love God with all your being and love others just as you love yourself. (Matthew 22:37-39)
We don’t do any of this very well! Even when we are held to only these two instructions!
But God! He knows us! He remembers that we are dust! (Psalm 103:14) So, because we don’t, can’t, and aren’t able to Love Him, He Loved Us! He sent Jesus to take away our sins; to do for us what we cannot! And He provided a way to be reconciled to Him through Jesus! This is Real Love!
Now,
Because He first Loved us,
We can love!
“We love each other because he loved us first.” 1 John 4:19 NLT
And amazingly, when we love others, we are expressing and demonstrating our love for God. “He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do.” Hebrews 6:10b NLT
Father, how can we thank You enough for Your Real Love? You did for us what we are unable to do, and because You Loved us first, we now can Love You and others.
