David Lied

Today’s Encouragement is, “And David said to Ahimelech the priest, ‘The king has charged me with a matter and said to me, ‘Let no one know anything of the matter about which I send you, and with which I have charged you.’ I have made an appointment with the young men for such and such a place.’” 1 Samuel 21:2 ESV

David lied –

David was running from King Saul, who tried to kill him. Then he lied to the priest! Then, in a bizarre scenario, David goes to his enemies (v. 10), feigns insanity (v. 13), and is sent away.

But what is missing? There is no reference to David asking God for help, direction, or wisdom. Perhaps he did ask God, but God probably didn’t direct him to lie and act insane.

Is it possible that this entire episode of his life was such a mess because he was acting alone, without God’s guidance?

But despite this self-directed mania, God still protected and provided for him. There is no condemnation, no criticism, no rebuke or punishment!

We might think, “Yeah, but that was David… he was a special person to God, anointed and chosen.” And yes, he was!

But, oh my friend, you and I are just like David today; His chosen, adopted, and deeply loved children. He forgives. He knows us. “For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust.” Psalm 103:14 NLT

Thank You, Father, that we are Your own chosen people, and You will never let go of us! Help us to seek Your direction for our lives, in times of quiet as well as times of turmoil.
