Today’s Encouragement is, “When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. “Don’t cry!” he said. Then he walked over to the coffin and touched it, and the bearers stopped. ‘Young man,’ he said, ‘I tell you, get up.’ Then the dead boy sat up and began to talk! And Jesus gave him back to his mother.” Luke 7:13-15 NLT
Gave Him Back –
Focus on His response when Jesus saw this heartbroken mother following her dead son to his burial. “His heart overflowed with compassion.“ This is a definitive characteristic of our Lord, Compassion!
Remember that He wept (John 11:35) with Martha and Mary over Lazarus, then raised him from the dead and, in essence, “gave him back” to his sisters. (John 11:43)
Please recognize that Jesus didn’t see the grieving mother and her dead son as an opportunity to demonstrate his power; he didn’t think, “This is a good time to teach people a lesson in healing, or kindness, love, and compassion.” No! Jesus acted in His heartfelt, compassionate love for this unnamed mother who was grieving the loss of her son. Just love. Just compassion.
There’s no mention of how good a woman she was, no mention of a husband, nor that the boy was a fine young man who had helped everyone; there is no indication that either of them deserved this miracle!
Only Jesus’ Compassion! This is the same compassion He has for all of us, His brothers and sisters.
Thank You, Father God, for consistently revealing Your Love for us. Thank You for Your undeserved compassion.
Only Jesus Could
