Today’s Encouragement is, “So Jesus went with them. But just before they arrived at the house, the officer sent some friends to say, ‘Lord, don’t trouble yourself by coming to my home, for I am not worthy of such an honor. I am not even worthy to come and meet you. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed.’” Luke 7:6-7 NLT
Not Worthy –
This Roman centurion (v2) needed Jesus’ help. The Jewish elders (v4) said, he “deserves your help.” They explained his actions, his love for their people, and his efforts to build their place of worship. They declared him worthy of Jesus’ help because of the impressive things he had done.
But the centurion later sent friends to say, “I am not worthy.” He then explained that all Jesus had to do was say the word to heal the servant. (v7) Jesus responded, “I tell you, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel!” (v9) and the servant was healed.
The Jewish elders said that the centurion was worthy of Jesus’ help because of the good things he had done. But the centurion confessed he was not worthy at all. And Jesus granted the request of the centurion, because of his faith, not because of his actions.
My friend, it is our faith, not our good deeds, that grants us access to the love, mercy, and grace of God.
Thank You, Father! We acknowledge that all our good deeds are meaningless without our genuine faith in Jesus. Thank You for Your mercy and grace, which we can never deserve. Thank You for continuing to strengthen our faith.
