New Wine

Today’s Encouragement is, “New wine must be stored in new wineskins. But no one who drinks the old wine seems to want the new wine. ‘The old is just fine,’ they say.” Luke 5:38-39 NLT

New Wine –

Jesus wasn’t teaching the finer points of wine making; He used it as an example. The old wine He refers to is the teachings of the religious leaders. They taught the Law of Moses. The new wine is His truth, the gospel of God’s grace and love.

He was teaching that the people who were taught and believed in the old ways were not interested in the new wine, the new truth of His Gospel. They preferred to hold on to their old beliefs.

We’re like that! We often say, “I was raised to believe that God helps those who help themselves. If I am good enough, then I’ll get into heaven. If bad things happen in my life, then it’s God punishing me for my sin.”

Just a few examples of the old wine ideas we often hold onto, unconsciously accepted and unquestioned.

Jesus clearly teaches my friend, the Truth; His Truth is the New Wine. By reading His Book and listening to Biblical teaching, we can deprogram our muddled minds from the lies of this world and embrace the Truth of Jesus. This world and the enemy want us to hold onto the old wine stubbornly. Jesus offers us the cup of new wine, which will set us free!

“The truth will set you free.” John 8:32b NLT

Thank You, Father, for Jesus, the Truth who sets us free! Help us let go of all the ‘old wine lies’ and fully accept the ‘new wine’ Truth.
