Today’s Encouragement is, “He said to them, ‘Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.’” Mark 10:14a-15 NLT
Like These Children –
This passage is not only about Jesus’ patience and His love for children. He loves us all, children included! But this also reveals an essential truth about our faith, our relationship with Jesus as adults, and our efforts to grow spiritually.
He states that “the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.” Pause here, and consider those words.
This world tells us, “Grow up! Stop being so childish! Act like an adult!” Such admonition is intended to stop us from being childish, immature, and inconsiderate. But Jesus essentially says, “Be child-like, trusting, listening, and learning.”
Notice that He then adds that we are to receive (not obtain, pursue, or seize) the Kingdom of God “like a child. ”
We Receive the Kingdom! A child cannot earn it! They don’t critically evaluate or suspiciously consider the pros and cons before accepting a gift. A child simply trusts, accepts, and receives a gift.
“Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens.” James 1:17a NLT
Father God, help us to be child-like in our trust in You. Help us to receive the Kingdom of God like a child. Thank You that You have given us good and perfect gifts: Your Kingdom, Salvation, Forgiveness, Your Love, and so much more! Please also give us grateful and understanding hearts.
