Go And Wash

Go And Wash –

Today’s Encouragement is, “But his officers tried to reason with him and said, ‘Sir, if the prophet had told you to do something challenging, wouldn’t you have done it? So you should certainly obey him when he says, ‘Go and wash and be cured!’ So Naaman went down to the Jordan River and dipped himself seven times, as the man of God had instructed him. And his skin became as healthy as the skin of a young child, and he was healed!” 2 Kings 5:13-14 NLT

In this wonderful message, Naman goes to Elisha, the prophet of God, to be cured of his leprosy. Elisha simply told him, “Go and wash yourself in the Jordan River seven times.” Naman was insulted. He’s a very important man in Aram, and he mocks the water of the Jordan River as being inferior to the rivers in his own country. But his officers suggest, “Why not try it? Why not simply obey? Why not do what the man of God suggests?” So Naman presumably reluctantly obeys, does as instructed, and is healed!

My friend, when we obey the spirit of God, however he speaks to us, however strange the instruction may seem, however simple, and in this case humbling, when we obey, God‘s word is proven true.

Sometimes when we obey, we don’t see miraculous cures. We may not see any immediate result. But God sees our obedience, and when He does, He acts. Our best response is obedience in faith, regardless of the outcome.

Father God, help us to respond in faith and say “Yes!” to the leading of Your Spirit, to say “Yes” to Your word, to surrender our will, our arrogance, and pride to You, and simply obey.
