Asked The Lord

Today’s Encouragement is 1 Samuel 30:8 NLT Then David asked the LORD, “Should I chase after this band of raiders? Will I catch them?” And the LORD told him, “Yes, go after them. You will surely recover everything that was taken from you!”

Asked The Lord –

At this time, David is a proven warrior, a great leader, and the victor of many battles, anointed to become the king by the great prophet of God, Samuel, the slayer of Goliath, and the greatest military hero in the entire history of the nation.  Now, his hometown has been attacked in his absence, and burned, all the women and children carried off as slaves, and then… He “asked the Lord…”

We think, “Wait, isn’t that obvious? Why would you even ask?  You’ve been terribly wronged, you have all the military strength necessary, why don’t you just act?”

Because David honored God First, he was ‘A man after God’s Heart’ (Acts 13:22); He clearly demonstrated surrender, just like the final prayer of Jesus… “Not my will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42).

Father God, may we also have the humility and faith to ask You before rushing in to do something, anything, even that which seems very clear to us.  May we place our will, our thoughts, and desires under Your authority and control.  Surrendering our imperfect will to Your perfect Will.
