Today’s Encouragement is 1 John 4:8 (NLT) But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
God is Love –
Can any one word define you or me? Certainly, we’re much more complicated, deep, even mysterious, than one word could come anywhere close to defining us. But – God has given us the Bible… to teach us… who He is, who we are, and how we can be saved, and made right with Him. There are many, many words in His book. Yet He chose to be defined… by one word… Love. He IS Love!
Love is His Nature, His being, and it is the way He relates to all creation, especially to you and me. Remember it was His Love that has brought us eternal life through Jesus… For God So LOVED the world (John 3:16). And nothing can separate us from His Love (Rom. 8:38).
What kind of Love is God? We are told clearly, exactly in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NLT). Now, if we substitute the Word “God” for the word “Love” (since He IS Love), this passage reveals to us incredible truth about His Nature, who He truly is… and it would read: God is patient and kind. God is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. God does not demand His own way. He is not irritable, and He keeps no record of being wronged. God does not rejoice about injustice, but He rejoices whenever the truth wins out. God never gives up, never loses faith, He is always hopeful, and He endures through every circumstance.
Sometimes, well-meaning believers say, “I disappointed God” or even “I broke His heart”. Friends, God is bigger, greater, and wiser than to be surprised by what we do or say. He is never aggravated, fed up, disappointed, or heartbroken by His children. There are human emotions, not God’s character. We are flawed; He is not. His Perfect Love (read the previous paragraph again) does not, cannot, and will not be limited by our imperfect behaviors.
