Before The Ark

Today’s Encouragement is 1 Samuel 5:4 NLT But the next morning the same thing happened – Dagon had fallen face down before the Ark of the LORD again. This time his head and hands had broken off and were lying in the doorway. Only the trunk of his body was left intact.

Before the ark –

The Ark of the Covenant was The symbol of God’s presence from Moses’ time.  It was naturally the primary treasure of Israel.  When it was lost in battle to the Philistines, they took it to the temple of their god, Dagon, and set the ark bedside their idol.

The next morning Dagon, the idol was face down bowing before the ark of God! Trying again, they set the idol back in its place… And again, the next day – Dagon was back down on its face before God’s presence… But this time with its head and hands cut off!

Friends, God is sovereign and supreme; nothing can oppose or supplant Him!

He needed no one to arise and defend Him, nor His Ark!  He confirmed His power to the Philistine people by causing their idol, their god, to bow down, and be broken before Him.

Our God Reigns!  He rules the universe, nations, and the souls of people.  He often uses people, even angels, to do His work, but as this passage reveals, He certainly doesn’t have to.

Father God, we recognize and worship You as Holy, Supreme, and the only True God.  Help us to willingly bow before You and You alone!
