Today’s Encouragement is Galatians 6:9 NLT So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.
Let’s not get tired –
Why do we get tired? Overwork, not enough strength, and monotony, all can play a part in our being tired. And so can an exhausted, weakened faith. This is becoming tired of doing good. It’s a real possibility, and one we must resist. Some call it ‘spiritual burnout.’
Remember that we serve, we ‘do good’, in order to please God, to show that we are grateful for His blessings and His Love. But not to earn His Love, because no one can ever DO enough to earn His Love, it is the Free Gift of God to all who believe in His Son. A gift cannot be earned.
If we don’t give up! But we often do get tired! There’s no condemnation for being tired, but this is clearly the time when the temptation to give up is greatest!
Oddly, there are times when we are counseled by God’s Word to give up! We are to give up on our own way, on continuing our sin, in the old ways of thinking and acting which serve to lead us to death! Yes! We must give up on the life of death, of sin.
We are also counseled by God’s Word to Rest! A sabbath-rest is one full day every seven, a full year every seven years, and a bonus year of Jubilee every fifty years. God clearly has a plan for rest in His Plan for us! Resting is not giving up, it is preparing to continue to do good; to enable us not become tired of doing good!
Father, we need Your strength to do as You ask, always. Give us strength to continue to do good, and also to rest.
