Today’s Encouragement is 1 Corinthians 6:11 (NLT) “Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”
You were cleansed –
Already, have been, past tense, complete, once for all, perfectly cleansed.
This beautiful verse from the hymn ‘It is well with my soul’ expresses it so beautifully…
“My sin, oh the bliss of this glorious thought.
My sin, not in part, but the whole!
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!”
My friends, we who call on the Name of Jesus, are NOW Clean!
Not just at the moment we were saved. Some believe we have to ‘clean ourselves’ from now on, by repenting and begging for forgiveness every time we sin. But, the work of Jesus is Perfect and Eternal!
Asking Him today to ‘please forgive me for…’ causes Him to respond, in love and patience, “Forgive you for what? I’ve already forgiven you – even before you sinned! Why are you asking me, begging me, to do for you – what I’ve already done?”
Rather, wouldn’t it be best to say “Thank You Lord for cleansing me of all my sin. I don’t deserve it, but by faith in Christ, I accept Your perfect Forgiveness.
Father God, help us to understand the completeness and finality of the cleansing work of Jesus for all who believe in Him. Help us to accept and live in the complete, perfect, and eternal Forgiveness, the Cleansing, of Jesus Christ. We pray in His Name.
Clean
