Today’s Encouragement is 1 Peter 3:21 NLT “And that water is a picture of baptism, which now saves you, not by removing dirt from your body, but as a response to God from a clean conscience. It is effective because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”
A clean conscience-
There seems to be much confusion or at least disagreement about Baptism. Does it save us, does it cleanse us from sin, is it required for salvation and more? This brief devotional thought isn’t intended to answer all our questions, even about only one verse of Scripture. [Friends, the Word of God is far too vast, too powerful- it is living and alive! (Heb 4:12), to be adequately explained in just a few paragraphs or a single worship song!]
This verse introduces the idea that Baptism is ‘a response to God from a clear conscience’. And this baptism is effective because Jesus was resurrected.
So, we choose baptism- as a response to God, a recognition of all He has done for us through Christ… that He has given us the gift of … a clean conscience!
Are we living in this gift my friends, a clean conscience before God, recognizing that Jesus has paid the unimaginable price to cleanse us, (including our conscience!) from all the sin we have done and ever will do.
It is tragic that some of us continue to hold on to, feel guilt and shame for, the terrible things we have done, when Jesus’ death and resurrection provides for us … a clean conscience! Freedom from all guilt and shame!
Is it possible my friends, that when we pray, “Father, please forgive me for my sins.” That He would respond to us, “What sin are you talking about? I only see Jesus when I look at you, my child!”
A clean conscience… this is for you and me!
