Only one thing

Today’s Encouragement is Luke 10:41-42 NLT But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! [42] There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Only one thing –

Jesus visited the home of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus.  Now as Martha is busily preparing the meal, Mary sits at Jesus’ feet, intently listening to His every word. Martha naturally becomes upset because she was doing all the work! Concerned about the many details of serving Jesus, she asks Jesus to tell Mary to help her.

Jesus’ response is today’s passage.

We too often become very busy with the many details of this life; we can even become consumed by busyness! Even serving the Lord, as Martha did, can leave us frustrated, upset, and eventually burned out.  There is a place and time for serving of course…

As if Jesus speaks this directly to us – ‘My friend, there’s only one thing that matters, only one thing that is so important that you need to be concerned about.  It’s above, beyond, and far exceeds the busy details of this life.  It is listening to and being with Me.‘

In John 6:68 NLT Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life.”

Mary discovered that Jesus’ words, the words of Eternal Life, were (and are still now, and ever will be!) The – Only – Thing – that matters!

Friends, will we set aside our busyness, the many details of this life, in order to choose, as Mary did, The One Thing – listening to Jesus, sitting at His feet, hearing His words of Eternal life?   Nothing Else Matters!
