Today’s Encouragement is Psalm 73:28 NLT But as for me, how good it is to be near God! I have made the Sovereign LORD my shelter, and I will tell everyone about the wonderful things you do.
I have made –
The songwriter chooses to make God his shelter, refuge, his ‘safe place’. Many folks are continuously looking for their own ‘safe place’! What shelter have you chosen?
The Bible is full of references to the shelter which God alone provides, and everything else, which the world seeks so desperately, just isn’t!
Psalm 91:1 NLT Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
John 15:4 NLT [Jesus said,] Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.
One important distinction to consider, we often think of shelter as a place we go when we’re in trouble, the hiding place we run to when we need protection. But the clear idea in both John and Psalm 91 is remaining, dwelling, living in, abiding in His Presence. He is our shelter and safe place. He is with us always; we can choose to live within, and abide in Him, we can “remain” in Him. Always.
Father, help us to choose You alone as our shelter and to remain, abide, dwell, and live in Your sheltering presence always. Help us to abide with You.
Abide with me
