Today’s Encouragement is Hebrews 12:15b. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.
Bitterness –
It’s described here as a poisonous root. Consider that analogy with me, a root grows plants, it is the source of nourishment and produces a flower, bush, or tree many times its size, if the root dies, so does its plant. So it is with bitterness… it starts as a seed, a thought of resentment, anger, hatred even planted within the soil of our heart, our soul our emotions… and it begins to grow, silently, quietly, until it begins to break the surface, and we then have this growth to deal with, having a life of its own almost… it drives us into separation from others, even from God! It is bent on only destruction; no good ever comes from this root!
My friends, the alternative, the antidote to this bitterness root… is the Grace of God. Once we see how great our own sin is, and how immeasurably great His Grace is for our sins… we can recognize that there is no room in our lives for bitterness, resentment, or unforgiveness (all have this same root)! When we live under, and within the Grace of God, then we can share, extend that Grace with others… and those who have hurt us, no matter how deeply, even our disappointment with God Himself… can never overcome the Grace and Love and Mercy of God for us.
When a root is dug up, exposed to the direct sunlight, it withers and dies. The only way a root lives is when it is buried in the soil. When we recognize and confess our bitterness, resentment and unforgiveness… the root is exposed to the direct sunlight of God’s Truth, His Grace and Love!
In the Light of His Love… the root of bitterness withers and dies!
Lord, please expose to us the root of bitterness, resentment, shame or unforgiveness which lives within us, uproot it, and remove it from us Lord. Thank You for giving us freedom from this poisonous root!
