What the Spirit means

Today’s Encouragement is 1 Corinthians 2:14 NLT But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.

What the Spirit means –

This ‘natural’ world – our human bodies and minds, our thoughts and our emotions, what we see, feel, and touch, is passing away.  (1 Cor. 7:31)

The person who hasn’t surrendered to God isn’t spiritual, and ‘the things of God’s Spirit,’ God’s truths, His ways, His power, His relationship to us, are all very contrary to the ways of man.  To the natural person it all sounds foolish, these things are only understood spiritually by those who believe.

Friends, we are often mocked by people in ‘the world’ who are not filled with God’s spirit.  They cannot understand us, nor the Word of God because it is for us, not for them… it is for ‘only those who are spiritual.’

This isn’t an excuse to be arrogant, nor to belittle those in the world, but rather to help us understand that we are set apart, we are granted the gift of God’s Spirit so that we can understand His Word, His purposes.  We do this as we study His Word, as we pray, as we listen to Biblical sermons and we then grow in faith, feeding His Spirit within us, upon His Truth… and spiritually, we become stronger and stronger.

And as we do, the things of this world will grow strangely dim… in the Light of His Glory and Grace.  As we grow closer to Him, the world grows less important, and He becomes our All in All.
