Today’s Encouragement is 2 Thessalonians 3:13 As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good.
Do not grow weary-
Ever feel that way? Just tired of helping others? Maybe just tired period?
Is it possible that:
- We aren’t even trying to help others – some may say ’Anyone can work and if they don’t work, they don’t eat…’ of course it’s different when I’m down, lost my job, can’t feed myself or my family, when I just need a helping hand here or there…
- We help others ‘too much’ – when we help folks who can work and provide but who refuse to do so, we are not helping but enabling them to continue in idleness.
- We are helping others from, based upon, our own strength and resources – this is trying to ‘do good’ to gain God’s approval. Friends, His approval is perfect and complete already! because we have accepted Jesus as our savior and we are seen by God, through Christ. We are clothed with Christ (Gal 3:27), our own efforts are futile, but we can do all things through Christ! (Phil 4:13)
Finally, my friends, it is work! It is demanding work to care for others, to give of ourselves in doing good. Ministry, caring for others, is work, but it is work which rewards, work worthy of our efforts because every kind deed done in Jesus’ Name is done to and for Him (Matt 25:40).
Father help us to help others to demonstrate our love for You, our gratitude for Your gift of Amazing Grace which we can never repay, for equipping each of Your children with the ability to care for others uniquely and specifically as we look to You as our source of strength. Help us to continue to help others. In Jesus’ Name we ask.
