Today’s Encouragement is 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, [17] comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.
Every good work and word –
Be careful friend, not to read the headline and miss the passage. This is a prayer for the believers, for you and me, that God and Jesus would comfort and establish our hearts… in every good work and word. This is not our will directing our hearts to do good works and say good words… rather it is God’s Spirit leading us to, establishing us in, the work and words which He knows are good for us and for others.
Notice too, this prayer recognizes that God has (already!) given us eternal comfort and good hope, and He did this by means of His Grace!
God does this. We accept it, or not. He is the power, the strength, the direction, the will. We just Trust Him and Obey Him. This perspective is essential to serving Him as His servant rather than ‘enlisting His help’ to do what we want or need, which would be essentially… asking God to serve us!
Father may we first, ask You, seek You, and submit to You as You direct our paths. Then may we trust You to lead us and to equip us as we follow You. You are the Source, of every good gift, of every good work and word.
