Today’s Encouragement is Colossians 3:1-2 NLT Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. [2] Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.
Think about the things of Heaven-
This passage begins with- since you are reborn in Christ… dead to this earth, this life… set your sights, fix your eyes, consider, and think about… eternal things… not this earth and the temporary things here.
We’ve all heard this criticism of some believers, (probably those who practice this concept!) “He’s so heavenly minded he’s no earthly good!” (Which is one of many maxims which sound good but are totally wrong!) Well, I hope to be in that category! So focused on heavenly things… and unconcerned about earthly things.
Friends, this life passes quickly. What we accumulate, what we do, the good and the bad, what we say, all will dissipate like a mist in the rising sun. Certainly, how we live as believers is important, and that’s what we’re talking about! What are our goals, thoughts, intentions, objectives?
This isn’t wandering aimlessly staring into the heavens… this is seeing another person’s heart-felt need, reaching out in compassion to that person in need because we are Christ’s ambassadors. This is giving of our own possessions because we realize all we have comes from and belongs to God! This is setting our own wants and desires aside in order to be obedient to God’s direction, the leading of His Holy Spirit.
My friends, God is Love. We are most blessed when we Love God and Love others. It’s not complicated, it’s not impossible to attain, it’s not a long list of dos and don’ts….
Lord God help us to choose to set our minds on things above, to turn away from earthly things and to live as Your freed children. Freed from the cares of this life to enjoy life eternal with you… beginning now.
