Today’s Encouragement is Galatians 6:14 “But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”
The world –
The world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. The term ‘crucified’ is powerful imagery! It implies torture, agony, humiliation, shame, suffering, death, fatality, hopelessness and disdain of all the earth.
This crucifixion, the chosen execution of the Lord Jesus, is here used to describe believers’ relationship (our relationship) with this world. It’s more than “I am dead to this world.” It is a brutal, violent separation, an absolute end.
We are eternally separated from, dead to, this world and it’s interests, needs, and desires.
It is not uncommon for a new believer to experience a loss of interest in the ‘things of this world’, when even a glimpse of the glory of God comes into view, within the spiritual imagination of man, ‘the things of this earth grow strangely dim’ (as the beautiful worship chorus sings) ‘in the light of His glory and grace.’
My friends, this world, this life, the greatest glory of man’s accomplishments, fame, wealth, beauty or power… is as insignificant as dust to those who have glimpsed the Glory of God.
We can still be grateful for the good things of this life, we still reside here for a time,70-80 or 100 years… yet we will all wither and die, like the grass…
But His grandeur, immeasurable, unimaginable, unlimited… is where we now belong.
Father help us to recognize that we are, through the cross of Jesus, crucified to this world, and our true home is with You.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
