Today’s Encouragement is Matthew 17:5-7 He [Jesus] was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” [6] When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified. [7] But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.”
Listen to Him –
Imagine hearing God’s voice saying, “This is My deeply loved Son: I’m completely pleased with Him so listen to Him.”
We are also clothed with Christ (Gal 3:27) and God is well-pleased with you and me – because He is well-pleased with Jesus, and we are in Christ, clothed with Christ.
God said, “Listen to Him” – so, what is Jesus saying? Are we listening to Him, really listening and hearing the message, spirit, and substance of His words? Why listen? Because this is God’s much beloved Son. What is Jesus saying to us? What are His words? The Bible text is an abundant source of His words! What did He say? Listen to Him!
The disciples responded to hearing God’s voice (v6) by falling on their faces in terror! Jesus spoke (commanded) as He touched them (just imagine being touched by Jesus!) as He said “Rise, and have no fear.”
Do you think they had any fear in their hearts after the King of Kings said to them- ‘Have no fear’? As assuredly as the wind and waves obeyed his command, the fear-filled heart of man is calmed and warmed by His command, “Have No Fear!” Fear must flee at His voice!
Father God help us to truly listen to the words and message of Jesus our Lord, Your Son.
