Today’s Encouragement is Romans 1:5 “…through whom [Jesus] we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations…”
The obedience of faith –
Paul identified the reason for his call as an apostle of Jesus, as this- “to bring about the obedience of faith”.
This must mean that, as believers in Christ, saved and redeemed through faith in Him as Savior and Lord, (and through faith alone we are saved…) we are encouraged, to live out that faith, to act in faith, to walk, eat, sleep and work in that faith… and in the obedience to God which our faith naturally and supernaturally births within us.
A lot to absorb in a few words. Yet we know that: Faith without works cannot stand, it is dead. Our deeds done in faith are the evidence of the truth of our beliefs. We love our family, so we act lovingly to them. When we resent another person we naturally act toward them from that resentment, acting otherwise, with a heart full of resentment, only produces internal strife and disharmony which eats away at our souls. So in faith, because of our love and gratitude to Christ for His love and mercy for us… we therefore act in obedience to Him.
How do we obey? Remember He said in John 13:34 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”
Friends we obey Christ, and we live in obedience of faith, when we recognize His immeasurable Love for us, [1 John 4:19 We love because he first loved us.]
and then, filled with His love, we are able to truly Love others.
Accepting the Love of God through Jesus, and loving Him and others as the result of His love within us… This is the obedience of Faith.
