Today’s Encouragement is Mark 4:37-39 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. [38] But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” [39] And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
And they woke him-
Let’s consider this picture. Jesus and the twelve are in a boat on the Sea of Galilee, crossing it. Jesus himself had suggested it in v35, ‘let’s go across’. Then Jesus decides to take a nap. (Didn’t He know there would be a storm?). In blows the storm, the boat begins to fill with water… perhaps some experienced fishermen like Peter began to bail, others manned the oars perhaps to try to escape the storm, stay on course… but none of that is mentioned… only that ‘they woke him’. And they asked, ‘do You not care…?’
Friends when the storms of life are raging… go to Jesus. Bailing the boat, manning the oars, jumping out and swimming for land, all may make sense to those who don’t have Jesus… but WE are His. We can ‘Go to Him’ when the storm hits. He has the solution to our crisis, always. He will calm every storm, in His time and in His way; when we ask.
Father, we look to You for our help. You alone are the Source of every good and perfect thing. You alone provide our Peace, by calming the storm around us, or the storm within us.
Sometimes He calms the Storm
