Without Cause

Today’s Encouragement is Psalm 35:7 For without cause they hid their net for me; without cause they dug a pit for my life.

Without cause –

King David wrote this Psalm and he had enemies!  He was a man after God’s own heart, yet he had enemies who hated him … without cause!

Perhaps it was because He was King, perhaps because David was so blessed by God, whatever the rationale was that his enemies devised in their angry hearts… they wanted to kill him… without cause!

And in this same way my friends, there may be those who, for a time, will hate you or me… without cause.

We’re perplexed when this happens, as though it was unusual, yet it has gone on for all time.  Cain hated Abel and killed his own brother… without cause! He had a reason, but no cause… Abel had done nothing to Cain!  And the clearest case of hatred without a cause is those who hated Jesus Himself, the greatest injustice of mankind!

This reality, that there may be those who hate us without cause… isn’t very encouraging!  Until we recognize that it is ‘the way of this world’; those without the Love of God in their life are filled with fear, hatred, and destructive poisons.  But we, God’s children, are free from these same poisons, at least, we are able to be freed from them by the presence of God’s Spirit in our hearts.  We battle them from time to time, but they are defeated enemies in the life of believers, they’re defeated already by Christ and then again as we gain His victory over these poisons. Not perfectly, but often!

So, as you see people who are driven by the poisons within them, come to hate you… without cause… recognize this is their rebellion against God Himself.  We are just His representatives.  And when we’re hated without cause my friends, we’re in very good company!

I am not alone

  1. Love King David , so flawed yet loves God. We can all relate to his problems to some degree. I hate when snares are set for the innocent it bothers me.
