Today’s Encouragement is Psalm 131:1-3 O LORD, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. [2] But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me. [3] O Israel, hope in the LORD from this time forth and forevermore.
Calmed my Soul –
I’m weaning calves right now. They’ve been separated and are now bellowing for their mothers, and moms are responding in kind, all day and night! They are most certainly NOT at peace! They’re desperately longing for the nurturing care of their mothers. But a calf, like a child, that has been weaned is no longer desperate and needy, and instead simply enjoys just being with its mother… And like a weaned child, we can rest secure and comfortable in the Father’s arms.
The first verse talks about not being concerned with things too great for me, like world affairs, politics, or… I suggest, even the needs of the day (what you will eat or wear) … rather, we can be at rest in the Love of God… like a weaned child with its mother.
The second verse speaks of calming and quieting my own soul… this is a decision, to choose to rest in Gods protection, controlling and commanding my own heart to be silent, to trust God, and stop fearing the world.
And the third verse, in order to have this peace and freedom from concern, put your hope in the Lord. Choose to focus your mind on God’s Love, Protection, Provision, Mercy, Grace, Power, Perfection, Sovereignty, His Person. Turn your mind and heart away from this world and its worries and choose instead to put your all your Hope in Jesus.

Thanks Sister. We are barraged by the cares of this world, always though but certainly seems to be increasing. For believers, our source of strength and hope… and peace and calm… can only be in Jesus… Strangely, the worse this world becomes, all the sweeter is His comfort and His presence.
