Today’s Encouragement is Matthew 8:2-3 And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
A leper came to Him-
In the earthly days of Jesus, lepers were completely ostracized, isolated, and lived apart from the world. They came near to people crying out, “Unclean, Unclean!”, to warn others, ‘the clean’, to be careful not to come near. Everyone feared the contagion of leprosy. And those who had it were considered cursed.
Into this scenario comes Jesus, and one certain leper who dares brave the onslaught of derision by ‘the clean’… to – Come to Jesus. And He came- this filthy, maimed, infectious, bleeding, deformed, worthless human soul – he came to Jesus. He came in faith, in hope, in desperation, enduring the agonizing shaming of ‘the clean.’
He Came. to. Jesus.
And Jesus healed.
Jesus, filled with compassion essentially declared, ‘I am willing to cleanse and make you new. To restore you to perfect wholeness and health, to remove the shame and isolation, to give you a new life. Be clean.’
Father God we come to Jesus now, again, and always.
Come to Jesus
