Patiently Endure

Today’s Encouragement is, “For God is pleased when, conscious of his will, you patiently endure unjust treatment.” 1 Peter 2:19 NLT

Patiently Endure –

What? Endure injustice? Patiently? Really Lord?

Yes, really.

Remember God’s ways are not our ways. (Isaiah 55:8-9). His way is higher than ours; His way is better.

“But it’s not Fair! No one should ever have to suffer injustice! God is Just!”

Yes, He is Just. “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne.” Psalm 89:14a

Still, in this world, we will have trouble (John 16:33). We will experience fiery trials (1 Peter 4:12); in fact, we may be hated,
“So don’t be surprised, dear brothers and sisters, if the world hates you.” 1 John 3:13 NLT

The encouragement (admittedly obscure) in these scriptures is this: we will often suffer for doing right, perhaps even be hated because we are followers of Jesus. There is inherent injustice in this world, and we live in this same unjust world.

However, we know this earthly life is “but a mist” (James 4:14 ESV), and we know a better life (a perfect life!) is waiting for us in Eternity. We know that God sees us, loves us, and will deliver us in His time. So, armed with His truth, aware of and trusting in Him and His promises and His justice, we can patiently endure. We can do all things – through Christ who gives us strength. (Philippians 4:13)

Father God, thank You for teaching us that we can endure the injustice of this world with patience when our focus and attention are fixed on Jesus. He will be with us in times of trouble, and He will bring us out!

I Will Wait For You
