Today’s Encouragement is, “What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you? You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it.” James 4:1-2a NLT
What You Don’t Have –
Our wants and desires drive our lives. We pursue them by any means possible. Consciously or unconsciously, we work, plan, plot, and fight for what we want.
This is the human will at work. Our will, our desires, plans, hopes, and dreams are the driving force of our lives. The nature of our will might be good or evil, strong or weak, wise or misdirected, but it is always dominant.
This self-will is the human spirit within us which we are invited to surrender to the perfect will of God. Jesus did so throughout His earthly life, and He expressed it so clearly the night of His arrest, facing certain torture and agonizing death, “Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” Luke 22:42b ESV
This echoes the prayer He taught us, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10 ESV
When we surrender our self-will to God and ask Him to do His perfect will in our lives, we begin to experience freedom from self-focus, selfishness, and our human will, and instead enjoy the freedom and blessings of His perfect will.
God’s will for us is always for our good (Jeremiah 29:11). He wants us to enjoy an abundant life (John 10:10) on this earth and forever. So pray for, accept, and experience God’s will! His will, His way, is always for our good.
Thank You, Father, for transforming us from selfish, greedy people into those who desire Your will over our own, who love others, give selflessly, and live abundantly. Your will, not mine, be done.
