Your Will Not Mine

Today’s Encouragement is, “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” Luke 22:42 NLT

Your Will, Not Mine –

In His agonizing final moments of prayer, Jesus revealed this powerful truth.

God’s will, His plans, purposes, desires, thoughts, and all things about Him are Perfect. His ways, in all things, are infinitely better than ours!

For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:9

Since we readily acknowledge this is true, what if we added this to our every prayer? Just like Jesus did, we can pray for what we want- our needs, hopes, and desires- but then acknowledge His Perfect Will might be (and often is) very different (higher) than our will.

Honestly, most of my problems come when I either get things my way or don’t get my way! Neither one works out for me!

How would our lives change, our faith be strengthened, our perspective be clearer, if we were to adopt the essence of this truth in our daily lives?

“Lord, please do this… but I really want Your will to be done, not mine.”

This is our surrender, just as Jesus did, to His sovereignty, power, and His Love.

Lord, You know our fickle faith, our wavering ways. We desire to be dedicated, surrendered servants, but we also fight with our human nature. Help us adopt this faith-filled perspective, adding “Your Will, not mine” to every prayer.
