Today’s Encouragement is, “No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” Philippians 3:13-14 NLT
Forgetting the Past –
We don’t do this very well, do we? Forgetting the past. In fact, we major in it. We remember all the pain of our pasts: the injury, the trauma, the insults, abuse, neglect, injustice; the list is endless. Some have endured real trauma, and that isn’t to be minimized.
We may be years, even decades, beyond these painful experiences, but we still relive and hold on to them as if they were our treasures, our identities!
According to God’s word, however, we are no longer that person, the person we were in the past; we are now – new.
“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” 2 Corinthians 5:17
We always have a choice. This choice is either to look back on our past or to look forward to our future. God is telling us that we can forget the past! And choose to press on in our new lives! And we can again choose to look forward to this new life with hope and even excitement. ”For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
Father God, help us embrace Your wisdom, forget the past, look forward to the future, and press on in faith toward the heavenly prize.
