Today’s Encouragement is, “I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding.” Philippians 1:9 NLT
More And More –
In this introduction to his letter to the believers in Philippi, Paul explains how he prays for them. He prays that they will grow, more and more, in love, knowledge, and understanding. These are the elements of maturity as a believer in Jesus.
Notice that love overflows, more and more. To overflow a cup must first be filled, then when it is full, it naturally begins to overflow. God’s love, filling us, and then overflowing to others.
We all begin as infants with a tiny seed of faith in Jesus, and then embark on a growth process often described as a journey, path, or road that leads to spiritual maturity.
Some will wander from the path, some will sit beside it, but some will faithfully, step by step, more and more, continue to move toward Him. These keep on growing in love, knowledge, and understanding.
We choose.
The growth of these characteristics is the indication and result of Christian maturity. Maturity comes with time, but also with nurturing. A tree planted in good soil and well-watered will mature much sooner than a neglected one in poor conditions. As believers, we choose! We can choose to nurture our seed of faith with His Word, prayer, and relationship with Him, thus growing, more and more, in maturity; in overflowing love, knowledge, and understanding.
Father God, thank You for Your creation of the process of growth, for every living thing, plants, animals, and even for the faith of Your people. Help us to keep on growing, more and more, in Your love, knowledge, and understanding.
